The Pharmacological Actions of Sibutramine

This product is a centrally acting medication for the treatment of obesity. It exerts its effects primarily through its amine metabolites (secondary and primary amines); its principal mechanism involves enhancing satiety by inhibiting the reuptake of norepinephrine, serotonin, and dopamine, while having no significant effect on their release. Studies further indicate that neither this product nor its active amine metabolites exhibit significant anticholinergic, antihistaminic, or monoamine oxidase inhibitory activity.
